Indications (Uses)
ALPHA-VIT is indicated for the prevention and treatment of conditions associated with vitamin D deficiency and impaired calcium metabolism, including:
- Vitamin D deficiency
- Osteoporosis
- Osteomalacia (softening of bones)
- Renal osteodystrophy (bone disease associated with chronic kidney disease)
- Hypocalcemia (low blood calcium levels)
- Hypoparathyroidism
- Bone health support in elderly patients
Mechanism of Action
Alfacalcidol is an active vitamin D analogue that is converted in the liver to calcitriol, the active form of vitamin D. It works by:
- Increasing calcium and phosphate absorption from the intestine
- Supporting bone mineralization and strength
- Maintaining normal blood calcium levels
- Improving bone health and reducing the risk of fractures in appropriate patients
Dosage and Administration
- Take as directed by your physician.
- Can be taken with or without food.
- Swallow the tablet whole with water.
- Dosage depends on the patient’s condition and blood calcium levels.
Common Side Effects
- Increased blood calcium levels (hypercalcemia)
- Nausea
- Constipation
- Loss of appetite
