Indications (Uses)
Sulvin (Levosulpiride) is indicated for the treatment of:
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Functional dyspepsia (indigestion)
- Gastritis
- Delayed gastric emptying (Gastroparesis)
- Nausea and vomiting associated with gastrointestinal disorders
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) with dyspepsia (as prescribed)
Mechanism of Action
Levosulpiride selectively blocks dopamine D2 receptors, improving gastrointestinal motility and accelerating gastric emptying. This helps relieve symptoms such as:
- Heartburn
- Bloating
- Early fullness
- Nausea
- Upper abdominal discomfort
Dosage and Administration
- Take as directed by your physician.
- Usually taken before meals with water.
- Do not exceed the prescribed dose.
Common Side Effects
- Drowsiness
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Constipation or diarrhea
- Dry mouth
- Increased prolactin levels (may cause breast tenderness or menstrual changes with prolonged use)
Warnings and Precautions
- Use with caution in patients with kidney impairment.
- Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine.
- May cause drowsiness; avoid driving or operating machinery if affected.
- Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
- Not recommended without medical supervision in patients with epilepsy or Parkinson’s disease.
