Uses

Ledopif (Linezolid) is an oxazolidinone antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive bacteria, including:

• Pneumonia (community-acquired and hospital-acquired)
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Infections caused by Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
• Infections caused by Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE)
• Complicated bacterial infections when other antibiotics are not suitable

How It Works

Linezolid inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, preventing bacteria from growing and multiplying. It is effective against many resistant Gram-positive bacteria.

Dosage

• Take only as prescribed by your doctor.
• The usual adult dose is 600 mg every 12 hours, depending on the type and severity of the infection.
• May be taken with or without food.
• Complete the full prescribed course, even if symptoms improve.

Serious Side Effects (Seek Immediate Medical Attention)

• Allergic reaction (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)
• Unusual bruising or bleeding
• Low platelet count or anemia
• Vision changes (especially with prolonged use)
• Peripheral neuropathy (numbness or tingling in hands or feet)
• Serotonin syndrome when taken with certain antidepressants (agitation, fever, rapid heartbeat, muscle stiffness)

Precautions

• Inform your doctor if you are taking SSRIs, SNRIs, MAO inhibitors, or other antidepressants, as Linezolid can interact with these medicines.
• Avoid consuming large amounts of tyramine-rich foods (aged cheese, cured meats, fermented foods, soy sauce, draft beer) during treatment, as they may cause a dangerous rise in blood pressure.
• Use with caution in patients with liver disease, kidney disease, or a history of high blood pressure.
• Long-term treatment may require regular blood count monitoring.

• Store below 30°C.
• Keep in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.
• Keep out of reach of children.
