Composition:
Each capsule contains:

• Cefixime (as Cefixime Trihydrate) equivalent to Cefixime 400 mg

Indications (Uses):
PineFix is indicated for the treatment of susceptible bacterial infections, including:

• Upper respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis, tonsillitis)
• Acute sinusitis
• Acute otitis media (middle ear infection)
• Acute bronchitis and acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
• Community-acquired pneumonia (mild to moderate cases)
• Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
• Uncomplicated gonorrhea
• Typhoid fever (where local guidelines recommend Cefixime)

Note: Cefixime is effective only against bacterial infections and should not be used to treat viral infections such as the common cold or influenza.

Mechanism of Action

Cefixime inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), resulting in bacterial cell death.

Dosage & Administration

• Adults: 400 mg once daily or 200 mg twice daily, as prescribed.
• Can be taken with or without food.
• Swallow the capsule whole with water.
• Complete the full course of therapy, even if symptoms improve.

Serious Adverse Effects (Seek Medical Attention)

• Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
• Persistent or bloody diarrhea (Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea)
• Severe skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
• Liver dysfunction (jaundice)
• Blood disorders (rare)

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to cefixime, cephalosporins, or any component of the formulation.
• Use with caution in patients with a history of severe penicillin allergy due to possible cross-reactivity.

Warnings & Precautions

• Use only for confirmed or strongly suspected bacterial infections.
• Dose adjustment may be required in patients with severe renal impairment.
• Use cautiously in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, especially colitis.
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Use only if clearly needed and under medical supervision.
• Prolonged use may lead to overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi.

Drug Interactions

May interact with:

• Warfarin and other anticoagulants (may increase bleeding risk)
• Carbamazepine
• Probenecid (may increase cefixime levels)
• Live bacterial vaccines (e.g., typhoid vaccine)
