Tazipine 15 mg Tablets

1. Indications

Mirtazapine is primarily indicated for:

• Major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults
• May also be prescribed by doctors for associated sleep disturbance, anxiety, or poor appetite, depending on the individual clinical situation.

2. Benefits / Therapeutic Effects

• Helps improve symptoms of depression
• May improve sleep, particularly when depression is associated with insomnia
• Can increase appetite and may cause weight gain
• May help reduce associated anxiety symptoms in some patients

3. Contraindications

Do not use without medical advice if the patient:

• Is allergic to mirtazapine
• Is taking an MAO inhibitor, or has stopped one within the previous 14 days
• Has previously experienced a serious reaction to mirtazapine.

4. Side Effects

Common:

• Sleepiness/drowsiness
• Increased appetite
• Weight gain
• Dry mouth
• Constipation
• Dizziness
• Fatigue

Serious—seek medical attention:

• Suicidal thoughts or significant worsening of mood
• Severe allergic reaction
• Severe skin rash/blistering
• Signs of serotonin syndrome
• Unusual agitation, confusion, fever or muscle rigidity

Antidepressants can increase suicidal thoughts and behaviors particularly in children, adolescents and young adults, so close monitoring is important.

5. Warnings & Precautions

• May cause drowsiness; avoid driving until you know how it affects you.
• Alcohol can increase sedation and should generally be avoided.
• Inform the doctor about bipolar disorder, liver/kidney problems, seizures, glaucoma, or heart problems.
• Do not stop suddenly; mirtazapine should generally be gradually reduced under medical supervision.
• Tell your doctor about all other medicines, especially antidepressants, sedatives and MAO inhibitors.

6. Usage / Dosage

Usual adult starting dose: 15 mg once daily, preferably in the evening before sleep.
Depending on response, the doctor may gradually increase the dose, up to 45 mg once daily. Dose changes are generally made no more frequently than every 1–2 weeks.

Important: This is a prescription antidepressant. The dose should be determined by the prescribing doctor.
