ESTARCOX contains etoricoxib, a selective COX-2 inhibitor (NSAID) used to reduce pain and inflammation.

1. Indications

Etoricoxib 60 mg may be prescribed for:

• Osteoarthritis (OA) – joint pain and inflammation
• Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
• Ankylosing spondylitis
• Pain and inflammation associated with certain acute conditions, as directed by a doctor.

2. Benefits / Action

• Reduces pain
• Reduces inflammation and swelling
• Can improve joint movement and stiffness
• Selectively blocks the COX-2 enzyme, reducing production of inflammatory prostaglandins.

3. Usual Dosage

For osteoarthritis, the usual recommended dose is 30 mg once daily; 60 mg once daily may be used in some patients when 30 mg is insufficient.
For rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, 60 mg once daily is a standard recommended dose. The lowest effective dose for the shortest appropriate duration should be used.

Do not increase the dose yourself.

4. Contraindications

Etoricoxib should generally not be used in people with:

• Allergy to etoricoxib or NSAIDs
• Active stomach/peptic ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding
• Certain serious cardiovascular diseases
• Uncontrolled high blood pressure
• Severe liver disease
• Severe kidney impairment
• Pregnancy
• Age under 16 years.

5. Side Effects

Common:

• Stomach discomfort/indigestion
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Nausea
• Diarrhea
• Swelling of legs/feet
• Increased blood pressure

Serious—seek medical attention:

• Chest pain or shortness of breath
• Severe allergic reaction
• Black/bloody stools
• Severe abdominal pain
• Sudden weakness or speech difficulty
• Significant reduction in urine output

Etoricoxib can increase cardiovascular and blood-pressure risks, particularly with higher doses or longer treatment.

6. Warnings & Precautions

• Use cautiously in patients with hypertension, heart disease, kidney disease or liver disease.
• Monitor blood pressure when appropriate.
• Avoid taking it together with other NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, diclofenac or naproxen unless specifically advised by a doctor.
• Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration.
• It is contraindicated during pregnancy.

7. How to Take

• Take orally once daily, exactly as prescribed.
• It can generally be taken with or without food.
• Swallow with water.
• Do not take more than the prescribed daily dose.

8. Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, protected from excessive heat and moisture, and keep out of reach of children.
