Description

Essopine 20 mg Capsules

Active ingredient: Esomeprazole 20 mg
Drug class: Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI)
Dosage form: Delayed-release capsule
Pack size shown: 14 capsules

Esomeprazole decreases the production OF

stomach acid and is commonly used for GERD, acid reflux, erosive esophagitis, and certain ulcer-related conditions.

1. Indications

  • GERD / acid reflux
  • Heartburn associated with GERD
  • Erosive esophagitis — healing and, in adults, maintenance of healing
  • Prevention of NSAID-associated gastric ulcers in appropriate high-risk patients
  • H. pylori eradication as part of combination therapy with antibiotics
  • Pathological acid-hypersecretion conditions such as Zollinger–Ellison syndrome

2. Benefits

  • Reduces excessive stomach-acid production.
  • Relieves heartburn and acid reflux symptoms.
  • Helps heal acid-related damage to the esophagus.
  • Can help protect against certain NSAID-associated gastric ulcers when prescribed for this purpose.

3. Contraindications

Do not use in patients with:

  • Known allergy to esomeprazole, substituted benzimidazoles, or any component of the formulation.
  • Use of rilpivirine-containing medicines.

4. Common Side Effects

Possible side effects include:

  • Headache
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal/stomach pain
  • Nausea
  • Flatulence
  • Constipation

Long-term PPI treatment may be associated with risks such as C. difficile-associated diarrhea, low magnesium, vitamin B12 deficiency and osteoporosis-related fractures.

5. Warnings & Precautions

Use under medical supervision if the patient has:

  • Liver disease
  • A history/risk of osteoporosis or fractures
  • Persistent or recurrent stomach symptoms
  • A need for prolonged PPI treatment

Unexplained weight loss, difficulty swallowing, vomiting blood, black stools, or persistent severe symptoms should be medically evaluated rather than simply treated with an acid-reducing medicine.

6. Usage / Dosage

For adults with erosive esophagitis, the usual dose is:

20 mg or 40 mg once daily for 4–8 weeks.

For symptomatic GERD without erosive esophagitis, 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks is a commonly recommended regimen.

For H. pylori eradication, esomeprazole 20 mg once daily may be used for 10 days together with appropriate antibiotics, such as amoxicillin and clarithromycin, according to the prescribed regimen.

How to take:

  • Take as directed by the doctor.
  • Swallow the delayed-release capsule whole.
  • Do not crush or chew the capsule.

7. Packing Size

Essopine 20 mg — 14 capsules per pack

Important: 20 mg is a prescription-strength dose. The appropriate dose and duration depend on the diagnosis, age, liver function, and other medicines being taken.
