Desloratadine is an antihistamine used mainly to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and urticaria (hives).

1. Indications

Desloratadine 5 mg is used for:

  • Allergic rhinitis
  • Sneezing
  • Runny or itchy nose
  • Nasal and throat itching
  • Red, watery or itchy eyes
  • Chronic urticaria (hives)
  • Relief of itching and reduction of the number/size of hives

3. Usage / Dosage

Adults and adolescents 12 years and older:
5 mg once daily.

  • Take with or without food.
  • Swallow with water.
  • Take at approximately the same time each day.
  • Do not take more than the recommended dose unless prescribed.

For children under 12 years, an age-appropriate formulation and dose should be used rather than automatically giving a 5 mg tablet.

4. Contraindications

Do not use Desloratadine in patients with:

  • Known allergy to Desloratadine
  • Allergy to loratadine or any ingredient in the formulation

Extra caution may be required in patients with significant kidney or liver impairment.

5. Side Effects
